How WHS law works in Queensland
Queensland's work health and safety laws are the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld). They are based on the national model WHS laws and are administered by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ), part of the Office of Industrial Relations. Electrical safety is regulated separately under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 (Qld).
Queensland's WHS Act has been amended following an independent review completed in 2022, including changes to the role of health and safety representatives and to entry permit rights. Documents written several years ago may not reflect how the law now works, so it is worth having them reviewed.
