A Safe Work Method Statement is a document that must be prepared before high risk construction work begins. It sets out the high risk construction work being done, the hazards and risks involved, and the control measures that will be used. If your work falls into one of the high risk construction work categories in the WHS Regulations (or, in Victoria, the OHS Regulations 2017) — such as work with a risk of a person falling more than 2 metres, work in or near a trench or shaft deeper than 1.5 metres, or work on or near energised electrical installations — you need a SWMS before you start.
